GIFT/REAL program
Summer, 2024 This summer our lab hosted Nicole Chapman, a teacher at Tucker High School, along with her students Sophie Abuladze and Yewoinhareg Gebrehana as part of the GIFT/REAL program. This program allows high school students to gain hands on laboratory experience while exposing them to complex ideas and research. Over the course of seven weeks, Nicole and her students learned how to extract metabolites from coral polyps, culture and co-culture marine bacteria, and maintain saltwater aquaria. Nicole plans to take the techniques she learned and design lessons to expose her class to culturing bacteria from soil. |
