​Nadine Receives Poster Award at HMURS 2022

​Nadine Abrahamse, our undergraduate researcher, won Honorable Mention in the 2022 Herty Medalist Undergraduate Research Symposium (HMURS) poster presentation sharing her work with marine bacteria. This symposium is organized by the Georgia ACS chapter.

​Andrew Receives Herbert P. Haley Fellowship
September 14, 2022

​Andrew was one of six graduate students awarded the Herbert P. Haley Fellowship at Georgia Tech for his work on investigating the Burkholderia cepacia complex. The initiative recognizes significant accomplishments and outstanding academic achievements for graduate students at Georgia Tech. The full press release can be found here. Congrats, Andrew!

​Neha Receives two Institute Teaching Awards

Neha has received both the CTL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award and the Vasser Wolley Award for Excellence in Instruction for 2022. The CTL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award highlights the excellent teaching and educational innovation that junior faculty bring to campus.

2022 Graduate Symposium Awards
April 19, 2022

Andy, Jessica, and Nikki were big winners at the 2022 Graduate Symposium. Andy received the Moody Award for his excellence in research. Jessica won 3rd place for her oral presentation on the "Dereplication of Natural Products from Coral-derived Bacteria to Enable Insights into the Pathogenic and Candidate Probiotic Strains." Nikki received the William Emerson Best Poster Award for her poster as well as the William Emerson Outstanding Graduate Student Service Award for her commitment to serving the community at Georgia Tech. We are so proud of our amazing graduate students!

Nikki was the recipient of the William Emerson Best Poster Award for her poster on the "Global analysis of metabolomic response to Burkholderia infection in in vitro mouse models" and runner-up for her talk at the Annual Graduate Symposium.

    Jessica and Nikki were recipients of the William Emerson Outstanding Graduate Teaching        Assistant Award for their impactful efforts as TAs in CHEM 1212K.

​   Jessica received an award for her outstanding poster on "Metabolomic studies of corals          infected with stony coral tissue loss disease." Congratulations to our exceptional graduate      students!

Environmental Protection Agency South FL Initiative Award
November 12, 2019

We are excited to receive funding by EPA with Dr. Val Paul to study stony coral tissue loss disease (SCTLD) spreading through the South Florida reef system. The grant will last two years and explore the dynamic between diseased coral and their bacterial counterparts. Sandia National Laboratories Grant

We are excited to work with Dr. Steven Branda at Sandia National Labs to characterize Burkholderia thailandensis metabolomes and transcriptomes in intermediate and chronic infection models via LDRD grant spanning three years.

2020 Petit Scholar Award
October 18, 2019

Paxton Threatt, our undergraduate researcher, is awarded the 2020 Petit Scholar Award to begin research in our lab. He will investigate the metabolomic relationships between Pseudomonas and Burkholderia strains grown in mixed cultures.
